The Doors Open on the Right at Addison

Greetings Blog Buddies!

Wow…I don’t think I have taken this long of a hiatus before. I notice that I have a few more followers since I last checked. Welcome aboard! This is a pretty random blog that is a combination of thoughts, ramblings, excerpts of private journal entries (see previous post) and the occasional example of current photography.

So in the last two months or so I have done much, I haven’t accomplished much, but I’ve kept busy. I had to say good-bye-for-now to a dear friend. During our last evening together it just didn’t seem like she was leaving. She has gone home before…but she has always come back. It didn’t really hit me until last Friday night. It was the first Friday that I was home, not on call, and wanting to go out for a night of Olney entertainment. She never called, never sent a txt, and she wasn’t waiting for me in the parking lot as I drove by…just to check. So it took me a while, but now I really feel the void left by Fabienne Klein. I miss you, Honighäschen.

The summer is clipping along nicely. Cummins Band is in mid-season, the Arts Council summer musical is progressing, and my farmer’s tan is well defined. My parents bought 20 acres south of town a few years ago and have started building their new house out there. I go out when I can and do what my schedule allows. Generally I’m mowing or on the tractor, and if I can get away with it…I’m stretched out in a hammock. I’m sure I’ll be out there more perfecting my tan lines as the house continues to take shape.

During a recent trip to Chicago I had a proud moment. It was a small thing, but I was all too proud. I had spent the night on the south side at Cicero and 118th in order to take care of a professional matter. I finished before I thought I would, so I ventured into the city to do a little shopping and get my required metropolitan experience. Anywho…on to my proud moment. I parked my car at Midway and took public transportation all the way to Halstad and Addison! Okay okay….I wasn’t completely on my own. I did receive a little help from a local via a series of txt messages…BUT still…I was damn proud. I must have looked like I knew what was going on because two different couples came up to me to ask me where to get off for the Sox game. I had no idea….but we figured it out together. I can drive anywhere in that town. And now that I’m a car person, I can PARK anywhere in that town. (My truck only fit in ONE garage near the loop) But my conquering of solo public transportation was a personal triumph.
