Survey Says?

Ever since I participated in a Nielsen Television Rating Survey I have been questioning why I subscribe to television service. I don’t watch television. When I do, it is generally a rerun of a sitcom that I already know by heart. Most of the time I have it on just for the noise. What a poor excuse. So with my next satellite bill sitting on my desk I am seriously considering letting it go.

Like many of you, I am turning toward on demand programming. I am proud to say that I have been a Netflix customer from their start. However, only recently have I been consistently using their streaming feature. I love it. I can watch what I want when I want. The only drawback is that it compromises my laptop for the duration of the show. I know, this can be fixed with a fancy wi-fi thingy.

I know what you’re thinking, and you’re right. Netflix is still pretty limited on their television selection, especially on the more recent programming. Hulu is the answer to that problem. I can watch last night’s network programming today. (I feel like I’m doing a commercial for this, but I’m really just thinking.) AND Hulu has a vast selection of older programs!

Last night I had a weird experience. I found one of my favorite shows from my childhood days. Newhart. Not the old one, but the one where they run a Vermont B&B. I selected it, snuggled in on the couch, and was immediately taken back to my grandparent’s living room. I loved it. You might find this quirky, but my favorite part of these old shows is generally the opening credits and the theme songs, and Newhart’s is one of my favorites…second only to Wings.

What do you think? Drop the dish completely and go to the much cheaper and far more convent on-demand method? AND what are some of your favorite shows from back in the day?

In completely unrelated news, today I caught myself staring at the magazine rack in the drug store trying to decide if the person on the cover of US Weekly was Hilary Swank or Justin Bieber. (In my defense, I didn’t see the name printed on the cover. It was covered by another magazine.)
